Brazil Plan
- https://edition.cnn.com/2023/04/24/americas/brazil-lula-ukraine-peace-coalition-intl-latam/index.html
- Lula’s proposal is to create “a G20 for peace” – a group of countries strong enough to be respected at the negotiating table, but that are still considered by some as neutral in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Indonesia, India, and China would play a crucial role in his vision, but Latin American countries are also invited to join the apparent initiative.

- In recent talks with Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, Brazil’s government has suggested that Kyiv accept a formal request to cease hostilities as part of a resolution that will receive a vote in the U.N. General Assembly this week.

- Since taking office on Jan. 1, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his foreign minister, Mauro Vieira, have publicly advocated for a negotiated end to Russia’s war in Ukraine. Brazil has taken a middle road on the conflict, frustrating some Western leaders: While Brasília has condemned Russia’s invasion at the United Nations, it has sidestepped U.S.-led sanctions against Moscow and declined a U.S. request to send arms to Ukraine. Instead, Brazil says it wants to be part of a group of nations that pushes for peace.

- Under Lopez Obrador's plan, the mediators would immediately start talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to achieve "a truce of at least five years." The plan was scant on other details, but Lopez Obrador told a regular news conference he will discuss it further in a speech celebrating Mexico's independence on Friday.

- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said in his speech on the anniversary of the Cry of Independence: "The Mexican government proposes that instead of continuing to feed this painful and absurd war, a commission for dialogue and peace be formed immediately." The International Peace Commission would be composed of the heads of state of India and the Vatican and chaired by the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. AMLO denounced the UN's failure to prevent war conflicts and added: "Even more reprehensible is the behavior of the great powers that explicitly or silently position themselves in the face of conflict only to serve their hegemonic interests." "We cannot avoid the suspicion that, although it may seem perverse, unbelievable, this war, like many others, is being fueled by the interests of the war industry," the Mexican president said.

- MEXICO CITY, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Friday he met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to discuss a Mexican peace plan for the Ukraine conflict that he presented to the U.N. General Assembly this week. Mexico has proposed a deal to halt the fighting but Ukraine opposes the plan which it says would be advantageous to Russia.

- MEXICO CITY, April 20 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Thursday urged Mexico to help make the case in Latin America for his peace plan for Ukraine, even as tensions persist within the country's ruling party about offering support to Kyiv.
China Plan

- His ambitions for alignment with Mr. Putin had one main purpose: presenting a united front against the U.S. The result, according to Chinese officials, foreign-policy advisers to Beijing and an analysis of public statements, was the Feb. 4 China-Russia declaration that the countries’ friendship had “no limits.”

- At the UN General Assembly marking the anniversary of the invasion, Chinese deputy UN Ambassador proposed China's plan including a ceasefire, dialogue, security guarantees for Russia, protection of civilians and the upholding of territorial integrity, while also insisting that the west was exacerbating the situation by sending weapons to Ukraine. On Feb 24, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs published as a 12-point position paper on its website titled "China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis", getting mixed responses from Western leaders. President Zelenskyy stated "I plan to meet Xi Jinping and believe this will be beneficial for our countries and for security in the world", although a time and place for such meeting was not set.

- Glaser also noted that the last of the 12 points, which stated that China stood ready to help in post-conflict reconstruction, “sounds like China is keen to get its [state-owned enterprises] into Ukraine, both to make a profit and promote Chinese influence via commercial and economic means”. Drew Thompson, a scholar with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and former US defence department official, said the statement lacked credibility. “Without … specifying the need to return territory that Russia is attempting to annex, Beijing’s statement is not a plan but a statement of anodyne principals that China itself does not follow, such as opposition to economic coercion in cases of political differences,” he said.

- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has recalled that former US President Donald Trump, who repeatedly promised to end Russia's war against Ukraine in 24 hours, had not done so before the full-scale invasion.
- Donald Trump’s refusal to commit to aiding Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion portends a stark choice for U.S. voters if the war is still raging in November 2024: The wide-ranging support for Kyiv under President Biden, or indifference to the winner of a conflict that has cost the U.S. and its allies tens of billions of dollars.

- The inquiry reported that Trump withheld military aid[a] and an invitation to the White House to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in order to influence Ukraine to announce an investigation into Trump's political opponent Joe Biden and to promote a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, was behind interference in the 2016 presidential election.

- President Trump says it is "time to bring our people back home" after the US signed a deal with the Taliban aimed at bringing peace to Afghanistan. Mr Trump said 5,000 US troops would leave Afghanistan by May and he would meet Taliban leaders in the near future, without specifying where.
